Here's a bit of Truth Behind Fake Social Media Laptop Heroes Freelancing Digital Nomad Bullshit... 🙄🔫
Ever scroll through LinkedIn and see those douchenozzles with their laptops on a beach, sipping cocktails, making it all look so damn easy and glamorous?
I use those posts when I need help with going to the toilet in the morning.
Imagine how the sand gets into every crevice of that laptop, and other cracks as well... The sun glare making the screen unreadable, and that cocktail? It's attracting a swarm of uninvited bugs.
It looks cool, but it just doesn't work like that. Yeah, you can do some quick things, and read an email, but you can do the same on the phone.
Working on the road as a freelancer isn't always the picture-perfect scenario social media paints it to be. It's often a clusterfuck of challenges: unstable Wi-Fi, unexpected distractions, and the constant search for a decent workspace.
As I am writing this post, it's nausiating to look at the screen in the moving bus, the sun is in my screen, and "Free Wifi" doesn't work, and I am thetered to my iPhone.
But, it's SO EASY to take a smiling photo, and be all like "my life is dope, and I do dope shit." When in reality, it is very frustrating, impractile, and I just can't wait to get there.
Do this long enough, you will miss deadlines, you will miss important calls, and you will wish you are somewhere where wifi works, and you are not distracted by dozens of people lifeing around you.
But this doesn't mean it all sucks all the time.
I just want you to know that things are not always what they seem, especially on social media.
And it pains me that my best ever post on LinkedIn is not my advice that helps people with their career, but a photo of my laptop on a balcony of a Mediteranian hotel, overlooking the beach. When in fact it was hot as hell and I went through my calls with sweat dripping down my asscrack.
Having said all that, working like a freelancer on the road - It pushes you out of your comfort zone, teaches resilience, and offers experiences you won't trade for anything.
There's no need to hide the bad, like everything in life, it's a balancing act. Why pretend it is not?
